I am so excited to say that I have happy news to report! After 7 weeks, Armando had his first meal by mouth Wednesday afternoon! 🥳 Granted, it was all puréed but to be able to savor real food ingredients again has made him a happy man! It perked him up real good and wanted to get out of the bed and into the chair. The speech therapist has been coming again, working with him and at first, it seemed like he was so set back that it was going to take a really long time to be able to get back to where he was after the first stroke but, it’s only been a few DAYS!!! Both PEG tube and J Tube remain in place at this time but they’ve now been turning the tube feedings off at night.
Now if it would only speed up getting insurance and getting Armando into rehab! My children were in 4-H when they were little and their motto always stuck with me: “Learn by doing”. Well, I guess that’s what I’ve been doing trying to navigate through Medicaid, obtaining POA, understanding health terms and procedures, even navigating through this huge hospital in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep. At times I feel so overwhelmed and intimidated by it all and would much prefer being at home cleaning, sewing and loving on my grand-buddies. But I have a Guide Who has been showing me the way. I don’t know what I would do without Him!!!

149 Friends, It’s brought me where I am today. It’s made me what I am. I can gladly introduce It to you. It’s the only Guide that I know anything about, for here on earth or up There. He is my Guide when I go hunting. He’s my Guide when I go fishing. He’s my Guide when I talk to somebody. He’s my Guide when I preach. He’s my Guide when I sleep.
150 And when I come to die, He’ll be standing at the river. He’ll guide me across the way. “I’ll fear no evil, for Thou art with me. Thy rod and Thy staff, they’ll correct me and guide me across the river.”

¡Estoy tan emocionado de decir que tengo buenas noticias que informar! ¡Después de 7 semanas, Armando tuvo su primera comida por vía oral el miércoles por la tarde! 🥳 Por supuesto, todo estaba hecho puré, ¡pero poder saborear ingredientes de comida real de nuevo lo ha hecho un hombre feliz! Lo animó muy bien y quería salir de la cama y meterse en la silla. El logopeda ha estado viniendo de nuevo, trabajando con él y al principio, parecía que estaba tan atrás que iba a tomar mucho tiempo poder volver a donde estaba después del primer derrame cerebral, ¡pero solo han pasado unos DÍAS! Tanto el tubo PEG como el tubo J permanecen en su lugar en este momento, pero ahora han estado apagando las alimentaciones por sonda por la noche.
¡Ahora si tan solo acelerara conseguir un seguro y llevar a Armando a rehabilitación! Mis hijos estaban en 4-H cuando eran pequeños y su lema siempre se quedó conmigo: "Aprende haciendo". Bueno, supongo que eso es lo que he estado haciendo tratando de navegar a través de Medicaid, obtener POA, entender los términos y procedimientos de salud, incluso navegar por este enorme hospital en medio de la noche cuando no puedo dormir. A veces me siento tan abrumado e intimidado por todo y preferiría estar en casa limpiando, cosiendo y amando a mis nietos. Pero tengo un guía que me ha estado mostrando el camino. ¡¡¡No sé qué haría sin Él!!!

149 Amigos, Eso me ha traído hasta donde estoy hoy. Me ha hecho lo que soy. Con gusto puedo presentarles Eso a Uds. Es el único Guía del que yo sé algo, para aquí en la tierra o Allá arriba. Él es mi Guía cuando yo voy a cazar; Él es mi Guía cuando voy a pescar; Él es mi Guía cuando hablo con alguien; Él es mi Guía cuando predico; Él es mi Guía cuando duermo.
150 Y cuando llegue a morir, Él estará parado allá en el río. Él me guiará a cruzar allí; “No temeré mal alguno, porque Tú estás conmigo. Tu vara y Tu cayado me corregirán y me guiarán al otro lado del río”.
